General description
The 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider 1600 “Coda Lunga” is one of the most iconic Italian roadsters ever produced. Designed by Battista Pininfarina and built by the renowned design house Pininfarina, the first series of the Alfa Romeo Spider is celebrated for its elegant and aerodynamic styling, highlighted by the distinctive long tapered rear end that earned it the nickname “Coda Lunga” or “Osso di Seppia.”
The model was officially introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, where it immediately captured public attention thanks to its pure design and the unmistakable driving character typical of Alfa Romeo sports cars.
History of this particular example
This beautiful Duetto Coda Lunga was first registered in 1967 in Pescara and still retains its original first-registration license plates, a highly desirable feature for collectors.
According to the certificate of ownership, the car has had only four previous owners before the current one, who purchased it in 2000 and has carefully preserved it in excellent condition for over twenty-five years.
During his ownership, the car underwent a complete restoration, carried out with attention to authenticity. The body shell was stripped to bare metal and then fully repainted in its elegant red color.
A particularly noteworthy detail is the perfect condition of the door gaps, an aspect that is often problematic in “Coda Lunga” examples and therefore quite rare to find in such correct condition.
In 2012 the engine and gearbox were completely overhauled, and since then the car has covered very few kilometers.
The black Sonnenland soft top has been recently replaced, ensuring both aesthetic and functional excellence.
The car is accompanied by photographic documentation and invoices relating to the restoration work.
Historical certifications
The exceptional quality, originality and authenticity of this car are confirmed by prestigious historical certifications:
ASI Gold Plate Certification, issued by the Automotoclub Storico Italiano
FIVA Identity Card, issued by the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens
These recognitions represent the highest level of authenticity and historical correctness within the collector car world.

Production and rarity
The first “Coda Lunga” series of the Alfa Romeo Spider was produced from 1966 to 1969, in relatively limited numbers compared with later versions.
Because of its distinctive tail design and pure original styling, this early series is today the most sought-after version among collectors.
Well-preserved cars with original plates and official historic certifications, such as this example, represent one of the most desirable configurations on the classic Alfa Romeo market.
Worldwide fame thanks to cinema
The global fame of the Alfa Romeo Duetto is closely linked to the famous 1967 film The Graduate, starring Dustin Hoffman.
In the movie, the protagonist Benjamin Braddock drives a red Alfa Romeo Duetto, and the memorable driving scenes helped transform the car into a symbol of youthful freedom and Italian style.
Following the film’s success, the Duetto became one of the most recognizable and beloved Italian roadsters worldwide, a timeless icon of elegance and sporting spirit.
